Pattern - Mitts by Sally

 These fingerless oxo mitts were used by Sally to demonstrate cables in her cabling class. They are knit in 4ply.

Left Mitt - Cuff

·        CO 60 stitches using the Long Tail Method then move to 3 needles (15, 30, 15 sts).

·        Work 6 rounds k1, p1 ribbing

Wrist

N1 and N3 sts are the palm, worked in stocking stitch throughout. N2, the back of the hand, is worked from the chart.

·        Work 12 rows.

Thumb Gusset

The thumb gusset is worked over N1 sts only.

·        N1 - k11, pm, M1R, k1, M1L, pm, k3 (work N2 and N3 in pattern as set, row 13 of chart)

·        Work 2 rounds even

·        Repeat these 3 rounds in pattern, with M1L and M1R closest to each marker, until there are 21sts between the markers, finishing at the end of the last increase round (= round 2 of the chart)

·        Knit to the marker, remove marker, k21 gusset sts, remove marker, slip 21 sts onto waste yarn, k3, continue as set for N2 and N3 (= round 3 of chart).

·        K11; CO 1 st using Backward Loop method (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ojOU7Bco4dM) , k3, work N2 and N3 in pattern as set.

·        Work further 6 rounds as set, finishing end of round 10 of chart.

·        Work 6 rounds k1, p1 ribbing.

Thumb

·        Transfer the 21 gussets sts from waste yarn over 3 needles - N1 = 8 sts, N2 = 5 sts, N3 = 8 sts, then slip the first st on N1 onto N3.

·        Work k1, p1 ribbing to the last 2 sts, p2tog = 20sts.

·        Work further 5 rounds k1, p1 ribbing.

·        BO in rib.

Right Mitt - work the cuff and the wrist as for the Left Mitt.

Thumb Gusset

The thumb gusset is worked over N3 sts only

·        Work N1 and N2 in pattern as set. N3 - k3, pm, M1R, k1, M1L, pm, k11

·        Work 2 rounds even

·        Repeat these 3 rounds in pattern, with M1L and M1R closest to each marker, until there are 21 sts between the markers, finishing at the end of the last increase round (= round 2 of the chart)

·        Knit to the marker, remove marker, k21 gusset sts, remove marker, slip 21 gusset sts onto waste yarn, k11, continue as set for N2 and N3 (= round 3 of chart).

·        Work further 6 rounds as set, finishing end of round 10 of chart.

Thumb

Work as for Left Mitt

Finishing

Weave in loose ends and close the gap at the top of the thumb gusset.
