Technique - Picot Hem

This technique is courtesy of Andrea Doig from Fruity Knitting (Ep 37).  She used it on her Manzanita Tee jumper by Romy Hill.

It is great for dressier garments and can be added to either bottom-up or top-down garments. Use it on hems and sleeve hems.

Here, the technique is described working from top-down.

Technique:

  1. Where you want the sleeve to end, where it will fold for the hem, knit a row of K2tog, yo to create a row of holes.
  2. Knit stocking stitch below this row for 1" and bind-off
  3. Turn the hem up along the row of holes
  4. Using the same yarn as for the jumper. whip stitch the bind-off stitches to the back loops of the jumper.
